What is a Supporters’ Group?

We are an independent Supporters’ group for SOCCER IN SAN DIEGO

To the general public, a soccer Supporters’ Group (SG) is generally an organized, independent group of passionate and dedicated fans of a particular soccer team. A supporters group can number from a handful of fans to hundreds, and often claim entire sections of a stadium for themselves. The members of the SG usually stand together behind one of the goals and support their team by standing, drumming, chanting, singing, and waving flags. SG’s typically have identifying scarves, they setup banners and trapos in the stadium, and sometimes organize unique pre-game choreography which could include the display of a large tifo over the supporter section - especially for rivalry matches.

At least this is what the public sees on match day. Being a member of an SG is so much more. It is a lifestyle that extends well beyond match day. SG’s tend to have deeps roots in their local communities and seek to enrich lives through philanthropic efforts and being a positive agent of change.

Supporters' groups are generally well organized with a defined leadership structure. Members have the ability to run for office and vote for their representatives in this leadership structure. Many SG’s (like ours), sell their own merchandise such as scarves, shirts, hats, and jackets.

Supporters' groups usually have representatives who liaise with the club front office on a regular basis, mostly regarding tickets, seat allocations, and storage facilities. This usually translates into things like cheaper tickets, exclusive access to events and insider information, early access to the stadium before matches to prepare the displays, among others.

While SG’s and the club Front Office (FO) are independent of each other, and at times disagree with each other, the SG’s with the best stadium presence are the ones who are able to form a partnership that is built on open and honest communication & collaboration.
